Scoliosis

We challenge you to take the first step and schedule a time to speak with our doctors. It will likely be unlike any doctor visit you have experienced in the past, and it may be the point at which your life will be changed forever. – Dr. Biggs

How Chiropractic Can Help Scoliosis

Scoliosis, a lateral curvature of the spine, affects 5 to 7 million people in the United States. More than a half million visits are made to doctors’ offices each year for evaluation and treatment of scoliosis. Although scoliosis can begin at any age, it most often develops in adolescents between the ages of 10 and 15. Girls are more commonly affected than boys.

In more than 80% of cases, the cause of scoliotic curvatures is unknown; we call this condition idiopathic scoliosis. In other cases, trauma, neurological disease, tumors, and the like are responsible. Functional scoliosis is often caused by some postural problem, muscle spasm, or leg-length inequality, which can often be addressed. Structural scoliosis does not reduce with postural maneuvers. Either type can be idiopathic or have an underlying cause.

deletemeScoliosis can significantly affect the quality of life by limiting activity, causing pain, reducing lung function, or affecting heart function. Diminished self-esteem and other psychological problems are also seen. Because scoliosis occurs most commonly during adolescence, teens with extreme spinal deviations from the norm are often teased by their peers.

The traditional medical approach toward addressing scoliosis is centered on watching & waiting, bracing, and surgery. Depending on the case, chiropractic can be very successful at addressing many of the concerns involved with scoliosis. Chiropractic uses non-invasive and gentle techniques to allow the spine and nervous system work to their upmost potential.

The effectiveness of chiropractic increases exponentially the sooner scoliosis is identified. At Principled Chiropractic, we recommend all kids be checked as early as possible to avoid the health challenges that scoliosis creates. Bring your children in today for a complimentary scoliosis check.

Stay Chiropractic Healthy

Chiropractic not only restores the natural motion in each spinal segment, thus enabling that area to enjoy it’s full movement potential, but also enable healthier full body motion for a more functional and capable life.

Chiropractic enables the weight bearing abilities of the spine and skeletal structure to be optimized. This is critical whether you are lifting a bag of groceries, a toddler, or a heavy barbell.

Having your spine in a balanced and neutral position allows your body to hold itself upright with greater ease and with less resistance against gravity. This enables your muscular system to be more relaxed throughout the day. Coupled with more complete, fluid movement and efficient weight bearing, your body as a whole will enjoy a new level of efficiency.

By removing interfering factors in the nervous system, it is able to heal your body more efficiently and effectively from a cellular level.

Your body is constantly adapting to internal and external environmental factors. Your nervous system controls this adaptation. By improving nervous system function, adaptability also improves which keeps your body in a healthier state no matter what it encounters.

Our mission is to educate and lead as many people as possible toward optimal health.
